There are many elements to wedding planning that ultimately form the crux of the event. One common challenge of brides is planning a cohesive wedding. Your wedding should be a highly personalized, cohesive, seamless affair with effortless elegance. Your color palette and wedding elements should be complementary and not so "matchy, "matchy".
A few tips as you begin cohesive wedding planning:
- Begin with color/fabric swatches, color patterns or elements that will serve as the inspiration for your wedding.
- Define your wedding motif (traditional, contemporary, rustic, organic, country, formal, non-formal, semi-formal, black-tie, lavish, posh, elegant, over the top, etc. )
- Select your season, overall ambiance and time of day your wedding will take place (outdoor, indoor {or both}, brunch, mid-day, evening, etc)
- Mixing wedding motifs can be tricky, seek help from your wedding planner/event designer
- Select pictures from a magazine/internet that supports your wedding style/theme and create a collage to serve as your inspiration board
- Stationary or the wedding website will be the first element your guest will see, ensure all elements relating to marketing of your wedding are cohesive. (Website, Save the Dates, Invitations, Place Cards, Escort Cards, Table Identifiers, Menu Cards, Favors, Miscellaneous Labels)
Important Tidbit: One category is nearly contingent upon another when planning a cohesive wedding.
- Selecting bridal party attire: In some cases your bridal attire may identify your wedding motif.
Example: Your very adamant about your attendants wearing floor-length gowns. Floor length gowns can automatically place your wedding in the "formal" category.
- Selecting a wedding venue: In some cases your venue may identify your wedding motif.
Example: If your vision includes a luxurious ballroom reception, your wedding is formal
The biggest mistake made is poor element selection. It is important to consider all elements during the planning stages. Happy Planning!
